CAR Cardiff (Stonefield junction) & Rhymney Arrangement of  3-doll bracket signal assembly with 1×4ft main & 2×3ft relief, standard Western Region pattern enamelled arms, track circuit diamond & 'N' bracing. Note the armless GWR straight wooden signal post near the bridge support. This shows evidence that a stop and distant arm were once fitted. The telegraph insulators which carried the arm-proving contact repeater circuit wires, are still attached to the post just below the top lampman’s platform Cherry Orchard sidings     North

FOD Forest of Dean Close-up of counterweight and lamp-winding winch and disc & crossbar quadrant lever on down distant semaphore for Upper Soudley level crossing (The winch and quadrant gear were remnants of the disc & crossbar units mounted on this signal post in the 1800's). The wooden hand-grip is on the winding handle, not attached to the signal arm counterweight which is raised as the distant arm was showing "off". Between Bullo and Bradley Hill tunnels on Bullo Pill to Cinderford line. ~1 62 SW 19-Oct-63 13.30
